Contact Bill Di Blasio’s office, the  public advocate’s office requesting an investigation into both the procedures of Landmarks and Buildings Departments.  Please share your concerns regarding these issues we are pursuing…..
  • Spending public dollars to demo instead of shoring up is not in the public interest.
  • The lack of transparency by the part of HPD and Buildings is unacceptable, as they have yet to reveal the June 2011 report
  • The fact that Dept of Buildings has made contradictory  statements referring to the disclosure of the report is unacceptable.
  • The fact that Dept of Buildings is now

We are seeking engineers and/or architects that will provide statements in regard to the potential cost of shoring up the ‘Castle’ Please let us know if you have anyone you can ask to provide this type of analysis pro-bono or at a discounted rate. We need to show with facts that the estimated $385,000 of public dollars which HPD is willing to spend on private property  for the demo of the Castle, can be spent instead, to shore up the building.

This cause is not just about the ‘Castle’ its a about politics and profit vs history and community. By not allowing for a public hearing or landmarking of the Castle, since its closing as a hospital in 1979, the public’s interest has not been met. The same thing continues with the ‘Villa’ owned by RUMC and Bailey Seton Hospital owned now by Salvation Army.

We may have a legal issue here we should explore. The fact that public hearings are not required, yet the landmark law clearly does not include the ‘hardship of a owner’ or condition of the property when ‘calendaring’ something for a hearing.
