THE 2011 AWARDS FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION
The Preservation League of Staten Island is holding its annual PRESERVATION AWARDS ceremony on Saturday, April 16th starting at 1:00 PM at New Dorp Moravian Church, 2205 Richmond Road.  This program is a showcase for the love and vitality that Staten Island homeowners have for Staten Island.
 
Past awardees include Tottenville Historical Society, Westerleigh Civic Association, St. George Theatre, Sandy Ground Historical Society and the many homeowners and property owners who have restored their properties and saved a piece of Staten Island History for generations to come.

The awards program will consist of a slide presentation of the winning houses and buildings, presentation of the bronze plaques and certificates, typically followed by comments from the winning owners and designers.
I light luncheon will be served.  Purchase your tickets in advance.

2011 HISTORIC TREASURE AWARD
4485 Hylan Boulevard, Eltingville.
Categories are:

Bronze Plaque Award: This recognizes extensive restoration of the historic design and contextual additions that conform to the architectural style and form of a structure (see photo below).

Historic Treasure Award: Long-term stewardship of an historic or architecturally significant building is honored with this award. It's also given in recognition of a building that maintains its historic/cultural significance to the community, despite changes made over a period of time (see photo above).

Appreciation & Encouragement: This award is given to property owners who are in the process of renovating and restoring significant historic and/or architectural buildings.

Marty Pearsall Award: Named for the late PLSI member and Realtor, the recipient of this award exhibits exceptional dedication to preserving Staten Island's history as a homeowner, community leader or organization.

Two new awards will be presented this year:

Building Beautiful Award: This recoginzes the exterior facade of a commercial building that contributes to the commercial district's historic flavor and enhances the pedestrian shopping experience.

Block Beautiful: Given in recognition of a block or group of buildings that contribute to the historic, architectural and curb appeal of a neighborhood.
